Protein and Amino Acid Metabolism in Fetuses and Preterm Infants
Growth & Development
Low Birth Weight
In this presentation Chris van den Akker reviews the evidence around fœtal nutrition and protein metabolism. Adequate nutrition plays a role in stunted growth and suboptimal outcome and should be remediated and therefore amino acids should be administered early and in large amounts starting from birth. He also talk about the other factors that may affect protein requirement and metabolism. Van den Akker finishes this talk by pointing out areas where research is still lacking and could be improved.
