Protein Across the ICU Spectrum

Nutrition & Disease Management

This program presented on February 20, 2017 reviews the basic principles about the role of protein in the ICU patient and the potential benefits from receiving higher protein amounts. A review of a recent study (The DIVINE Trial) demonstrates how a whey-based, high protein, hypocaloric feeding shows a therapeutic effect at normalizing blood glucose levels. Evidence supporting protein needs for the pediatric critically ill patient and an overview of the 13 recommendations derived from a 2016 International Protein Summit is also addressed.
