Prebiotics and Probiotics in Children: Current Trends and Future Directions

In the past years there has been a huge interest on research on prebiotics and probiotics contributing to the ever-growing body of evidence for their preventive and therapeutic applications in a wide range of health conditions. Gaps however, exist in translating data from the bench into clinical application at the bedside. There is a great need for more robust, large-scale trials that demonstrate the interactions of these components that would provide convincing data so that their use can be translated to public health policies to benefit more of the population especially in developing countries.
