The risk of obesity in childhood, and later in life, may be influenced by pre and postnatal factors, the first 1000 days are the most important window of the programming of health and disease. There is evidence that low protein intake in the first 2 years can contribute to prevention of later obesity. The effect size has been estimated to be as high as 20%.
