Intermittent Fasting: Weight Loss and Type 2 Diabetes
Calorie restriction is a widely used weight loss strategy for individuals with overweight and obesity, and an approach that has reemerged and gained popularity is a very low-calorie diet (VLCD), using food-based or formula-based foods. Numerous studies show that VLCDs are effective in reducing weight and can lead to improvements in metabolic co-morbidities; however, long-term adherence remains a challenge. A newer method for weight loss which has received significant attention and suggested to improve adherence and long-term use is intermittent fasting (IF). Recent studies of IF regimens in individuals with overweight and obesity show they are an effective and flexible approach for weight reduction, and as of recent, a possible treatment option for the management of type 2 diabetes. In this webinar, Dr. Michelle Harvie will discuss the use of an intermittent low-calorie diet as a strategy for weight reduction and management of type 2 diabetes.
