This program is a compilation of two Hot Topics sessions recorded at Clinical Nutrition Week 2014.  The first presentation entitled “Nutrition Support in Elective Surgery” describes the benefits of peri-operative immune support and addresses the perceived obstacles to providing peri-operative nutrition support and provides recommendations on how to overcome those obstacles. The second presentation entitled “Perioperative Nutrition Optimization” identifies the types of surgery patients at high nutritional risk and describes the nutrients that may have a positive effect on the immune response including the benefits of immune modulating nutrients on patient outcomes.
