This program presented on February 19, 2017 describes the types and sources of fiber including fibers used in enteral formulas and explains the benefits of soluble and insoluble fiber. A review of the gut microbiome and how the use of prebiotics and probiotics may be beneficial in the ICU patient is addressed in addition to a more thorough clarification of when to use soluble and/or insoluble fiber as recognized in the 2016 Critical Care Nutrition Guidelines.
