Clinical studies: what is known and what needs further studies?

HMO are the third most important component in human milk and not present in cow’s milk. During his presentation, Dr. Philippe Alliet discusses clinical studies done with HMOs and shows the first clinical observation which demonstrates that HMOs* added in infant formula are safe and well tolerated (*structurally identical to those found in Human Milk).

He also presented the first clinical data showing that infant formula with 2’FL and LNnT promotes the Fecal Community Type (B) seen in breastfed infants. Secondary results of the same study have shown reduction of antibiotic use in the group supplemented with the HMOs 2’FL+LNnT, which may be linked to the Fecal Community Types
