Advances in Surgical Immunonutrition

Nutrition & Disease Management

This program presented on February 28, 2017 reviews outcomes from perioperative data comparing standard formula versus arginine-containing formula, versus formula containing a blend of arginine, omega 3 fatty acids and nucleotides. The mechanistic aspects of immunonutrients, and how immunonutrients in combination, contribute to the clinical outcomes observed after major elective surgery are described; as well as, findings from recent data showing the difference reduced carbohydrate makes to metabolic response when immunonutrition is consumed prior to surgery.
