Diagnosis criteria for functional gastrointestinal diseases (FGID) were first presented in 1988. Recently, Rome IV have refined their diagnostic criteria which includes a proposed new definition for FGID, new diagnostic criteria for infantile colic and constipation, and has incorporated a new chapter on pain. This publication discusses the current state of knowledge.
