This review article builds on scientific discussion that occurred at the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology conference in 2019. The manuscript provides an overview of Fel d 1, the major cat allergen, and discusses the currently available approaches for management of allergies to cats. It also introduces the use of IgY technology to bind and neutralize Fel d 1, after its production, in the cat’s saliva. This reduces the level of active Fel d 1 in the cat’s saliva and on its hair, which may ultimately reduce the allergen load in the environment.
