Conducts extensive research on iron, early interventions and improvement of long-term health in children and on nutrition and brain development.

His research involves randomized, clinical trials and cohort studies and he is currently leading several local and national clinical studies. A recently started project is a regional child cohort, “NorthPop”, aiming to include 10,000 pregnant women and follow their children from fetal life to school age.
Chair of the Committee on Nutrition of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition

Recent appointments include associate editor for JPGN and membership of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences National Committee for Nutrition and Food Science.

Developed a computer software “Nutrium”, a decision support system for improving nutrition and growth of infants in neonatal units.
