Research focuses on the effects of physical activity on cognitive and brain health in children, which has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, American Dietetic Foundation, and U.S. Department of Education.

A member of two Institute of Medicine Committees on Fitness Measures and Health Outcomes in Youth and Physical Activity, Physical Education, and the Cognitive Benefits for Children, which generated new national guidelines for physical activity participation in schools. 

Principal investigator on an NIH funded grant as well as the Co-PI for Project A PLUS, which is an evaluation of the 50M Strong initiative. 

Director of the Kinetic Kidz Lab as well as the chair-elect of the Whole Communities Whole Health 
Authored 100 peer-reviewed publications, 2 books, 10 book chapters, and has conducted more than 150 scholarly presentations and received multiple teaching awards.
