The addition of the HMOs 2’FL and LNnT to infant formulae is regarded as safe.
- According to an EU guideline released in December 2017, in both infant formulae and follow-on formulae, 2′FL can be added at a concentration of up to 1.2 g/L, either alone or in combination with up to 0.6 g/L of LNnT, at a ratio of 2:11
- The U.S. FDA has approved 2′FL and LNnT as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) under the intended conditions of use, that is, up to 2.4 g/L 2′FL and up to 0.6 g/L LNnT
