Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (FGIDs) are common in infants and toddlers & young children and can have short and long-term impact on their quality of life. Infantile colic and regurgitation are the most common FGID in the first months of life, while constipation and abdominal pain are common situations in toddlerhood and young children. The management of FGIDs in infants consists of parental reassurance and guidance and nutritional intervention. Nutritional interventions are effective and safe, and considering the role of an altered gut microbiome on the etiology of FGIDs, different and specific probiotics and prebiotics can play a role in the management of these disorders.
